MOSTRA XIV Brazilian Film Festival

MOSTRA (meaning “exhibit” in Portuguese) is the largest Brazilian film festival in the midwest. Presented by the non-profit organization Illinois Sao Paulo Chapter of Partners of the Americas.

This year it happens in person between 4th – 18th of November in Chicago/IL, Indianapolis, West Lafayette and Greencastle/IN.

The event’s motto is “Brazilian Films with Social Conscience”. MOSTRA has as its venues educational and cultural institutions to foster conversations about social issues among the academic community, filmmakers, students and socially conscious individuals.

Paloma is a trans woman who is determined to make her biggest dream come true: a traditional church wedding with her boyfriend Zé. She works hard as a farmer on a papaya plantation, and is saving up to pay for the party. The priest’s refusal to accept her request will force Paloma to face rural society. She suffers violence, betrayal, prejudice and injustice, but nothing shakes her faith.
