Lina Chamie, filmmaker, has an authorial style both in fiction and documentary features. Chamie’s films have participated in renowned film festivals like Cannes, San Sebastian, Havana, Montreal, amongst others, earning prizes and recognition. Lina is a graduate (Cum Laude) from New York University and obtained a Master’s Degree in Music from Manhattan School of Music, New York, USA.
Chamie has written and directed the following features: “Tonic Dominant” (2001) which earned her, among other awards and distinctions, the second place at the Kodak Vision Award – WIF – Los Angeles; and the Prize of Association of Art Critics of São Paulo – APCA. “The Milky Way” (2007), with world premiere at CANNES in 2007, official selection of the “Critic’s Week”, won, amongst others, the prize “Casa de America” at Cine en Construcción in San Sebastián, and participated in more than 80 festivals around the world, collecting innumerous awards and critical recognition. “Santos, 100 Years of Playful Soccer” (2012), the official film of Santos Futebol Clube’s centennial; “São Silvestre” (2013), an experimental feature-length doc about the most famous street marathon of Latin America, awarded with de APCA of Best Documentary 2014; “Best Friends” feature fi lm (2014), awarded at the Festival de Gramado. “Dorina – Looking Ahead” (2016), feature doc for HBO. “Santos of all Goals” (2019), a metaphysical look at the ecstasy of the goal in a soccer game, has earned the Best Film prize at the Cinefoot 2019. “KOBRA SELF-PORTRAIT” (2022) is her 8th feature film, a documentary about the internationally renowned graffiti artist Eduardo Kobra. The film received the Special Jury Prize at the FESTin Lisboa 2023 and won the prize for Best Documentary Film at the Brazilian Cinema Award 2023.
