Carolina Markowicz was born in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. She graduated from the London Film Academy in the United Kingdom and embarked on her filmmaking journey by creating short films. Between 2007 and 2019, she directed six short films, including “Edifício Tatuapé Mahal” (2014), “Long Distance Relationship” (2017), and “O Órfão” (2018), which established her as an award-winning filmmaker at major festivals such as Cannes and Toronto.
She made her debut as a feature film director with “Carvão” in 2022, a project that firmly established her name in the industry. In 2023, Carolina was honored at the Toronto Film Festival with the Tribute Trophy in the Emerging Talent category, making her the first Brazilian ever to receive this recognition in the festival’s history.
