><p>Graduated in journalism from the Federal University of Pernambuco, <strong>Kleber Mendon\u00e7a Filho<\/strong> has an extensive career as a critic and programmer. He was responsible for the cinema department at the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation for 18 years and wrote for <em>Jornal do Commercio<\/em> in Recife, as well as for other outlets such as <em>Revista Continente<\/em> and <em>Folha de S\u00e3o Paulo<\/em>. He is the artistic director of the Janela Internacional de Cinema do Recife and the chief curator of Cinema at the Moreira Salles Institute.<\/p>\n<p>As a filmmaker, he transitioned from video in the 1990s\u2014when he experimented with fiction, documentary, and music videos\u2014to digital and 35mm in the 2000s. His short films (&#8220;A Menina do Algod\u00e3o,&#8221; &#8220;Vinil Verde,&#8221; &#8220;Eletrodom\u00e9stica,&#8221; and &#8220;Recife Frio&#8221;) have received over 100 awards in Brazil and abroad.<\/p>\n<p>His first feature film is the documentary <em>Cr\u00edtico<\/em> (2008), produced over nine years. In 2014, he directed <em>A Copa do Mundo no Recife<\/em>, a 15-minute documentary made for SporTV and Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre. <em>Neighboring Sounds<\/em> (2012) was his first fiction feature, shown at over 100 international festivals, commercially released in 14 countries, and the winner of 32 awards.
