A Day with Jerusa” follows Silvia, a young, mediunic market researcher facing the hardships of underemployment while awaiting the result of a public exam, and Jerusa, a gracious 77-year-old lady, eyewitness to the daily life on Bixiga, a neighborhood filled with ancestral memories. On Jerusa’s birthday, while she waits for her family’s arrival, the encounter between her deepest memories and Silvia’s mediumship allows them to travel through time and realities common to their ancestry.

About the director:

Viviane Ferreira, filmmaker, activist and lawyer. Born and raised in Coqueiro Grande, in her most recent works, she co-directed the feature documentary “Pessoas: Vive para Count” (2019); and the direction and screenplay of the fiction feature film “Um Dia Com Jerusa” (2020), winner of awards at festivals such as Gary International Black Film Festival, Caruaru Film Festival and Vitória Film Festival, and selected for windows such as the Blackstar Film Festival, African Movie Academy Awards and New York African Film Festival. Professor of the direction of the film and audiovisual course at ESPM-SP, she holds a master’s degree in Communication and Culture Policies from the University of Brasília, and chaired the APAN (Association of Black Audiovisual Professionals) from 2016 to March 2021.
