Marianna Brennand (Brasília, 1980) is a filmmaker dedicated to telling and preserving overlooked cultural and social stories. A graduate in Film from the University of California, Santa Barbara, she returned to Brazil to direct the poetic documentary Francisco Brennand (2012), which won the Itamaraty Award for Best Brazilian Documentary and the Abraccine Award for Best Brazilian Film at the São Paulo International Film Festival. She also directed O Coco, a Roda, o Pnêu e o Farol (2007), winner of the Gilberto Freyre Trophy (CinePE), and produced Danado de Bom (2016), winner of four awards at CinePE. Her fiction feature debut, Manas (2024), explores the sensitive issue of child abuse and sexual exploitation in Marajó Island (PA), the result of ten years of research. Beyond cinema, Marianna works to preserve her great-uncle’s legacy, editing the award-winning Diário de Francisco Brennand (Jabuti Prize, 2016) and co-editing No Labirinto dos Sonhos: 50 Anos da Oficina Francisco Brennand (2024). She currently serves as president of the Advisory Board of the Oficina Francisco Brennand, where she was also president from 2019 to 2023.
